The Howard University Choir Visits Nanning
On March 20 Prof. J. Weldon Norris and the Howard University Choir captivated Guangxi Arts Institute students, professors, and provincial and municipal government officials. At the concert, with a large 30th Anniversary of U.S.-China Relations hanging above them, the Howard University choir enchanted the fully packed concert hall of over 400 from the opening number -- Samuel Barber’s haunting Adagio for Strings, performed with the Guangxi Arts Institute symphony’s 20-member string section, to the closer -- the Scottish folk song Nightfall in Skye, sung by both choirs mixed together, and with the Chinese wearing colorful ethnic clothing and the Americans wearing formal black.
