Where is Ed Dunn?

March 21, 2009 (Nanning)

Last night I heard one of the best musical performances of my life.  The Howard University Choir came to Nanning and performed at the Guangxi Art Institute here in Nanning.  The first number was Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, a beautiful and haunting piece that sounded amazing; the Institute’s 20 piece string ensemble performed it with the choir’s singers.  The performance’s final number was a Scottish folksong called Nightfall in Skye, which was performed by the two school’s choirs singing together!  Although I’m headed home to Guangzhou today, I’ll be back in Guangxi next week to visit universities in Nanning and Guilin and talk about 30 Years of US-PRC relations.  I’m spending a lot a time in Guangxi this month, but that’s always a good thing!
